Training in Saughtonhall

Golf, rugby and the riverside.

Saughtonhall was farmland until after the First World War, and the stadiums sit just across the river. Most of what's here is golf: Carrick Knowe, an Edinburgh Leisure 18-hole parkland course, plus Carrickvale Golf Club, Murrayfield Golf Club and the Murrayfield Golf Academy. Murrayfield Wanderers play rugby here, Edinburgh Rugby's stadium is across the river, and the Scottish Academy of Chinese Martial Arts adds a martial art.

The Water of Leith Walkway runs along the eastern edge, and the old Corstorphine branch railway beside Carrick Knowe is now a stretch of the John Muir Way. Saughton Park, half a mile south, has an athletics track and the largest skatepark in Scotland. Flat river paths suit a steady run with a training partner.
