Training in Canonmills
Classes, courts and the river.
Canonmills sits in a low hollow north of the New Town, on what was a loch until 1865. Once it was drained, the Royal Patent Gymnasium opened there, with a rowing ride for 600 and a 100-foot see-saw. Today's training is quieter. F45 Stockbridge runs group training, Pilates Potential teaches Pilates, Warriston Community Tennis Club has courts, and Edinburgh Softball and the Warriston Recreation Playing Fields add field sports.
The Water of Leith flows past Canonmills on its way to Warriston and Leith, so the Walkway is right here, and the Royal Botanic Garden and Inverleith Park are just to the north-west. A riverside run is better shared, and an F45 class is easier to keep going to when someone saves you a spot.
