Training in Balerno

Rugby, tennis and the Pentlands.

Balerno sits eight miles south-west of the city centre, where the Bavelaw Burn meets the Water of Leith. Its venues are sport-led: Currie Chieftains play rugby at Malleny Park, Balerno Tennis Club has courts, and there's a 2G pitch to book. Prime Wellness is the indoor studio.

The 12.8-mile Water of Leith Walkway begins here and runs all the way to Leith, much of it on old railway line. Uphill, the Pentland Hills hold the Threipmuir and Harlaw reservoirs, and Red Moss is a raised bog nature reserve nearby. Long walks and hill runs go better with company.
