Training in Belle Vue
Basketball, gymnastics and a reservoir.
Belle Vue's zoo closed in 1977 and its amusement park in 1980. The sport that came after is on a bigger scale: the National Basketball Performance Centre is the headquarters of Basketball England and home to the Manchester Giants and Manchester Mystics, and Manchester Basketball Club is here too. For everyday training there's PureGym Manchester Debdale, the City of Manchester Institute of Gymnastics, GKKC karate at Wright Robinson Sports Village, yoga soul in Levenshulme and Longsight Cricket Club.
Debdale Outdoor Centre on Hyde Road runs open water swimming on its reservoir, along with paddleboarding, sailing and windsurfing courses. Open water is a good place to have company, so it's worth finding a regular swim partner.
