Training in Bartley Green

Water sports, a university gym and a big country park.

Few parts of Birmingham let you train on the water. Bartley Reservoir is home to Bartley Sailing Club, which runs RYA courses from Start Sailing upwards, and to Bartley SUP for paddleboarding. On dry land, Newman University Sport and Fitness Centre has a cardio suite, a resistance suite and a group cycle studio, with a sports hall, a FIFA-standard artificial pitch and a squash court for hire, and memberships open to the local community. Antonio Santorelli's Black Belt Academy and a Zumba class round it off.

Woodgate Valley Country Park covers 450 acres where Bartley Green meets Quinton, with a city farm and a cafΓ©, so there's space for long runs without leaving the city. Sailing and paddleboarding are both easier with someone else on the water.
